Anniversary Grief

When the anniversary of a loved one's death, his birthday, or a wedding anniversary approaches, it is as if by unseen powers the emotions buried alive on those days again begin to pulse.

It is easy to misunderstand the signals. They occur without fanfare. Emotions can get testy. A small infraction seems disproportionately deep. Sleep can be disturbed. A funny feeling that something isn't quite right pervades an otherwise happy life. Check the calendar and, "Oh, Sunday is our anniversary. It would have been 23 years." Instead it was eighteen.
And so a wound that looked healed is open again if only for a single commemorative tear.

The "Anniversary" room in Grief Mansion is decorated with wedding photos, birthday balloons and Christmas trees. It has a magnetizing power that becons my return even years after leaving Grief Mansion.
